Empowering Women in Business: Insights from Kalahari Mining

At Kalahari Mining, women are breaking barriers and driving change. One of our directors, Tafadzwa Gogwe, shares her story of empowerment and leadership in a space traditionally dominated by men.

Mining has long been a male-dominated industry, but Kalahari Mining is shifting that. Tafadzwa and two other women now hold key roles on our board, showing what’s possible when women take charge.
In a recent podcast, Tafadzwa opened up about her experiences, emphasizing the need for women to own their place:

“You’re not here by accident. You belong because you’ve earned it.”

She also highlighted the importance of support among women. At Kalahari Mining, we’ve built a culture of collaboration, where women help each other succeed.

Our community, Kalahari Women, is creating a space where women can connect, share experiences, and grow together. Through this supportive network, we foster collaboration, mentorship, and empowerment, helping women navigate the unique challenges of the mining industry and beyond.

Facing stereotypes is another challenge Tafadzwa has tackled. She’s had moments where people questioned her decisions, simply because she didn’t fit their idea of how a woman in business should act. But at Kalahari, we embrace the unique qualities each person brings, whether they align with traditional norms or not.

Tafadzwa also stressed continuous learning and self-development. This mindset is part of our company culture, where we encourage everyone to stay informed and keep growing, both for personal success and the company’s overall strength.

Like many women in leadership, Tafadzwa balances her career with other responsibilities. At Kalahari, we strive to support our team in managing both work and personal life, so everyone can thrive.

Her final advice to women everywhere?

“Start now, and block out the noise.”

At Kalahari Mining, we’re proud to be part of a movement that’s reshaping our industry—making it more inclusive, innovative, and equal.
